“There’s no need for that,” Stella said.
She looked up at Matthew. He looked tired, his breathing was slightly uneven.
“What are you doing here?” she asked, confused.
“What are you doing here, Stella?” Matthew asked, throwing her question back at her.
“Why are you here this late?”
Stella felt embarrassed, so she lied.
“I wanted to get coffee. I didn’t expect that to happen.”
Matthew looked away from her and said, “Come on, let’s go. It’s not safe here.”
